Scandinavian Cyber-Posten

Welcome to the Scandinavian Cyber-Posten!

The Scandinavian Cyber-Posten is my blog for the band. Ever since I started reading The Machine's Pump on the Brave Combo website I've wanted my own blog. After all, I'm a creative and intelligent person and I have thoughts on a lot of things. Here's a place where you can read what I think about a variety of topics. I hope you enjoy what you read. If you have any feedback on what I've written, email me at toby@smilinscandinavians.com

Prost!

Yes, fans, Oktoberfest season is here. Most of you probably know the Oktoberfest story; the marriage of the Prince of Bavaria in 1810, replete with beer, sausages, horse races, etc. It was such a great party that the Bavarians decided to hold it every year. With the exception of epidemics and wars, Oktoberfest has been held every year since for nearly 200 years.

Here in America we have some interesting versions of Oktoberfest. Over the past weekend we played at the Deutchesfest in Odessa, WA (near Spokane). It's a great big party and very much Americanized. The sausage was hardly German; more like a coarse-ground, spicy kielbasa than a bratwurst. The biergarten was a large utilitarian building with sawdust on the floor and weak, ineffectual American beers like Coors. It was fun, nonetheless. There's a magical mix of alcohol and music which puts a crowd in the right mood to have fun and enjoy themselves. We had several couples up and dancing. It was really fun.

Next weekend we're headed to Laurel, Montana to see what the Oktoberfest is like there.
